How do I check if Perplexity mentions my business?

What does a Perplexity visibility report show?

The three numbers at the top of the report are the share of answers that mentioned you, your share of voice among every mention of every name, and your average rank across the answers that listed names in order. Where does Perplexity get its answers and citations from?

From the web, searched for every question. Perplexity's help page says that when you ask it a question it searches the internet in real time, and that each answer includes numbered citations linking to the original sources (How does Perplexity work?, read on 21 September 2026). Ask Perplexity for the best standing desk for a home office and you get a short list, a line on each, and the pages it read listed underneath. For that question they are two reviews, from The New York Times and TechRadar, a Tom's Guide roundup, a Reddit thread, and two of the makers' own websites.

On 18 September 2026 we asked Perplexity four everyday questions and counted the citations under each answer: 19 for a puzzle game, the App Store, Google Play and three Reddit threads among them, 17 for a tree-planting charity, the charities' own sites and lists of them on other sites, and 19 and 18 for the two local services, the businesses' own websites, directories and one Reddit thread each time.

How to improve Perplexity visibility

Start from the sources list in your report. Perplexity's help page says every answer includes citations linking to the original sources (How does Perplexity work?, read on 21 September 2026), so the Perplexity citations under the answers that mentioned someone else are the pages to get onto: open them, a newspaper or magazine review, a roundup, a Reddit thread, and see whether you are on them at all. If Perplexity mentioned you, open the page it cited beside your name and check that what it says about you is current. If what you do is local, the two local questions above were answered from the businesses' own websites and from directories, so the first listing to check is your own.

The check does not change what Perplexity says and does not write anything for you.

How to get recommended by Perplexity

Get onto the pages Perplexity cites for the questions people ask about what you do, the ones your report lists as citations. Start there, then read your own website as a stranger would and check that it says plainly what you do, where, and for whom. Perplexity's help page says its crawler, PerplexityBot, will not index the text of a site whose robots.txt disallows it, and that a blocked page may still be indexed by its domain, headline and a brief factual summary (How does Perplexity follow robots.txt?, read on 21 September 2026). Its crawlers page names two user agents: PerplexityBot, which finds and links websites for Perplexity's search results and is not used to crawl content for AI foundation models, and Perplexity-User, which may visit a page when a person asks a question and generally ignores robots.txt because the person requested the fetch (Perplexity Crawlers, read on 21 September 2026). Then run the same Perplexity visibility check again and the report shows whether you are recommended by Perplexity now and what moved.

Asking Perplexity yourself vs a Perplexity visibility check

One chat is one answer, and it is your answer, not a stranger's. What Perplexity shows you depends on your own account: the questions you have asked before, where you are, and what it remembers about you, and the stranger who gets the other answer is the person deciding whether to choose you.
