What is an AI rank tracker?

An AI rank tracker is the standings a MentionChecker check gives: the names the AI engines mentioned when asked the questions people ask about what you do, most-mentioned first, with your brand marked. MentionChecker is a pay-as-you-go AI visibility checker. It asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot the questions people ask about what you do, and tells you whether your brand is mentioned in the answers. A mention is an answer with your brand in it.

The standings are on the report under Who the answers mention. Every name has a bar and a number, the share of the check's answers that mentioned it, and your own row is marked you, wherever its number puts it. The most-mentioned names and every name you track are shown first, and the rest are behind one button that says how many more there are. A name is on the list because an answer mentioned it. There is no list of names to fill in first.

Who the answers mention on a MentionChecker report: ten names ranked by the share of the check's answers that mentioned each, Bose 63%, Sony 49%, the speaker brand marked you at 45%, Anker Soundcore 35%, Sennheiser 31%, Klipsch 18%, Ultimate Ears 16%, Marshall 14%, Bang & Olufsen 8% and Harman Kardon 4%, each with a bar, and an Exclude button on every row except the brand's own
The standings for a speaker brand: ten names the answers mentioned, ranked, with the brand marked you in third place and Exclude on every other row.

What do AI share of voice and average rank mean?

Share of voice is the share of every mention in the check that is yours, and average rank is your average place in the answers that listed names in order. The report gives both beside the mention rate, above the standings, as it opens. How each of the three is counted, what moves it and what a dash means is on the AI visibility score page. A question an AI engine gave no answer to is not counted, so 14 questions on four AI engines can be 51 answers.

NumberWhat it countsOn the report below
MentionedThe share of the check's answers with your brand in them45% of 51 answers
Share of voiceYour mentions as a share of every mention in the check, all names together, and under it your place among the names the answers mentioned16%, 3rd of 10 names the answers gave
Average rankYour average place in the answers that listed names in order, over the listings that ranked you2.5 over 10 listings
A MentionChecker report for a speaker brand as it opens: the latest check of 14 questions on four AI engines from the United States, 51 answers, the headline AI mentions the brand in 45% of answers, and under it three numbers, Mentioned 45% of 51 answers, Share of voice 16% and 3rd of 10 names the answers gave, Average rank 2.5 over 10 listings, then the top of Who the answers mention with Bose at 63% and Sony at 49%
The report as it opens: the headline, the three numbers beside it and the top of the standings, before any question is opened.

The place is by how many answers mentioned each name. Two names with the same count share a place, and the place is shown only when you were mentioned at all.

Average rank is withheld until at least three answers listed you in order. Below that the report shows a dash and says never listed in order, and from three on the count of listings is shown beside the number.

MentionChecker counts every AI engine's answers together, and the report lists every question with the AI engines that answered it and how many of those answers mentioned you.

What do I do with the standings?

Track the names that matter, exclude the ones that do not, and run the check again.

  • Track a name. Track on a row keeps that name in every check from now on. On History it gets its own line on the chart, a tick to show or hide the line, and its count in the check before and in the latest one, on the answers both checks cover, beside yours.
  • Exclude a name. Exclude on a row takes a name that is not a rival out of your numbers at once: the row goes, the latest check is recounted and your share of voice moves with it, with no AI engine asked again and nothing charged. A check never adds an excluded name back. Restore it in Settings, under Excluded from your numbers, and it counts again.
  • Open the answer. Every question on the report opens to each AI engine's answer word for word, with a mark where you are mentioned and the position it gave you, and the questions you were not on list the names mentioned instead. A citation is a page an AI engine lists under its answer as its source, and the report keeps every answer's citations under it, so you can read where the names ahead of you came from.
The Over time chart on the History view for the speaker brand: its line rising from 29 Jul 26 to 9 Sep 26, with Bose, Sony, Anker Soundcore, Sennheiser and Klipsch as grey lines, a Mentioned and Share of voice switch above, and under the chart the standings with a tick beside each tracked name, Before and Latest counts out of the 51 answers both checks cover, and the difference, the brand at 19 of 51 then 23 of 51, up 4
History for the speaker brand against Bose, Sony, Anker Soundcore, Sennheiser and Klipsch: its count went from 19 to 23 of the 51 answers both checks cover.

Run the same check again and History shows what moved: your mention rate, share of voice and average rank against the check before. The AI visibility tracking page shows the repeat and the History view, and the guide to checking your ChatGPT visibility is the place to start if this is your first check.

What does it cost to track your AI rank?

The standings, share of voice and average rank come with every check at no extra cost. One question on one AI engine, asked once, is one credit, and every pack is listed on the pricing page.

The same 25 on the four engines a check asks by default, once100

Why not a keyword rank tracker?

Because a keyword rank tracker reports a page's position in a search results list for one keyword, and an AI answer is not a results page. An answer from ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity mentions some names and leaves the rest out, in an order or not: on 18 September 2026 all six AI engines gave a list for cosy puzzle games with no ads, asked from the United States, and five different games were in first place.

What do people ask about ranking in AI answers?

Is MentionChecker an LLM rank tracker?

Yes. An LLM rank tracker records where your brand stands in the answers the AI engines give, and MentionChecker does that as standings on every report: every name the answers mentioned, ranked by how many answers mentioned it, with your brand marked and your share of voice and average rank above the list. Run one check and the report shows where you stand today. Your first check is free.

Is share of voice the same as being mentioned?

No. Mentioned is the share of the check's answers with your brand in them. Share of voice is your mentions as a share of every mention in the check, all names counted together, so it goes down when a rival is mentioned more often even if your own count held. MentionChecker shows both on every report, with your place among the names the answers gave under the share of voice.

Why does the report show a dash instead of a rank?

Because fewer than three answers listed you in order. Average rank in MentionChecker is your average place in the answers that gave their names in an order, and it is shown only once at least three of them ranked you, with the count of listings beside it. Below that the report says never listed in order. A check with more questions gives the average more listings.

Which names are in the standings?

Every name the answers mentioned, in one list ordered by how many answers mentioned each, with your own row marked you. The most-mentioned names and the names you track are shown first, and one button says how many more there are. A name you track that no answer mentioned this time is not shown on the report's list and keeps its row on History.

Can I exclude a name from the standings?

Yes. Exclude on the name's row takes it out of your numbers at once: the row goes, the latest check is recounted, and your share of voice and your place among the names move with it, with no AI engine asked again and nothing charged. A check never adds an excluded name back. In Settings, under Excluded from your numbers, Restore puts it back and recounts again. Exclude is on every row but your own from your first report, which is free.

What does tracking a name do in MentionChecker?

Track on a name's row keeps that name in every check from now on and gives it a line on the History chart. The most-mentioned tracked names start on the chart, and the tick beside each name in the standings under it adds or removes a line. Beside every tracked name are its counts in the check before and in the latest one, on the answers both checks cover, next to yours. Run the check again and the lines move.

Is share of voice AI engine by engine or all of them together?

All of them together. The standings, share of voice and average rank are counted over every answer in the check, whichever AI engine gave it, and the report also lists every question with the AI engines that answered it and how many of those answers mentioned you. A check asks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity unless you change the pick, and Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot are there to add. Your first check asks ChatGPT and Gemini.

Do the AI engines put the same name first?

On 18 September 2026 all six AI engines gave a list for cosy puzzle games with no ads, asked from the United States, and five different games were in first place. MentionChecker asks every AI engine you pick the same questions in one check and ranks each name over all of their answers. Your first check is free.

What does 3rd of 10 names the answers gave mean?

On a MentionChecker report, 3rd of 10 names the answers gave means the answers mentioned ten names in all and only two of them were in more answers than yours. The place is by how many answers mentioned each name, and two names with the same count share a place. It is under the share of voice on the report and is shown only when you were mentioned at all. A check with more questions gives a longer list and a place counted over more answers.

How often should I check my AI rank?

Run one check, then the same check a month later, and read what moved before deciding on a repeat. A repeat runs the same check daily, weekly or monthly from your balance, and History shows your mention rate, share of voice and average rank against the check before, with every tracked name's count. The AI visibility tracking page describes the repeat. Your first check is free.

What does the ranking cost in MentionChecker?

The same as a check, because the standings, share of voice and average rank are part of every report. One question on one AI engine, asked once, is one credit. A check of 25 questions on the four AI engines a check asks by default is 100 credits, which is the $17 pack, and the smallest pack is 50 credits for $9. Credits last 12 months, nothing renews, and your first check is free.

Can I share the standings with someone else?

Yes. Every report has a link you can send to anyone, and the person you send it to needs no login: they see the standings, the three numbers and every answer. A report also downloads as a PDF, as Markdown or as JSON. A past check opens as the report it was on the day it ran, so the standings from three months ago can be sent on as they were.
