How do I check if Gemini mentions my business?

Run a MentionChecker check: enter your website, pick Gemini and a country, read the report. What does a Gemini visibility report show?

Four things about the questions the check asked: how often Gemini mentioned you, on which questions, who was mentioned instead of you and how they rank in Gemini, and which websites the answers cited. Every number opens to the answer it came from. The three numbers at the top of the report are the share of answers that mentioned you, your share of voice among every mention of every name, and your average rank across the answers that listed names in order. A mention is your brand's name in the words of an answer.

Where does Gemini get its answers and citations from?

From Google Search, for the answers that used it. Google's privacy notice says some Gemini responses are grounded on Search results, and its help page says that when sources are available Gemini shows a Sources button under the answer, and that not every answer has one (Gemini Apps Privacy Hub and View related sources from Gemini Apps, read on 21 September 2026). Ask Gemini for the best payroll service for a small business and you get a short list, a line on each, and the pages it read listed under the answer as its sources. For that question they are NerdWallet, Forbes and PCMag, a Reddit thread, and two of the services' own websites.

On 18 September 2026 we asked Gemini four everyday questions and counted the sources under each answer: two for a puzzle game, Google Play and a game's own site, three for a tree-planting charity, each a list of tree-planting organisations on another site, and three each for two local services, a Google Maps listing every time, and every business it listed came from there.

How to improve Gemini visibility

Start from the sources list in your report: the pages under the answers that mentioned someone else are the ones to get onto, so open them, a comparison from a finance site, a review site, a forum thread, and see whether you are on them at all. If Gemini mentioned you, open the source beside your name and check that what it says about you is current. If what you do is local, every source under the two local questions above was a Google Maps listing, so the listing to check is your own.

The check does not change what Gemini says and does not write anything for you.

How to get recommended by Gemini

Get onto the pages Gemini reads for the questions people ask about what you do, the ones your report lists as citations. Start there, then read your own website as a stranger would and check that it says plainly what you do, where, and for whom. Google's crawler page says the Google-Extended token in a website's robots.txt controls whether its pages may be used for grounding in Gemini Apps, Google's word for the Search pages an answer is built from, and that the token has no effect on the site's place in Google Search (Google's common crawlers, read on 21 September 2026). Then run the same Gemini visibility check again and the report shows whether you are recommended by Gemini now and what moved.

Asking Gemini yourself vs a Gemini visibility check

One chat is one answer, and it is your answer, not a stranger's. What Gemini shows you depends on your own account: the questions you have asked before, where you are, and what it remembers about you, and the stranger who gets the other answer is the person deciding whether to choose you. Google's own help pages say that Keep Activity, on by default, stores your Gemini chats in your Google Account, and that with Memory on Gemini learns from those chats to understand more about you and your world (Manage & delete your activity in Gemini Apps and Get personalization with memory of your past Gemini chats, read on 21 September 2026). Its privacy notice says Gemini Apps always collect your location, by default the general area from your IP address or the Home or Work addresses in your Google Account (Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, read on 21 September 2026). Turning Memory off gets you closer to a stranger's answer. Gemini still answers from where you are, still stores the chat in your Google Account while Keep Activity is on, and the chat is still one answer, with no count of who else was mentioned.
