What is MentionChecker?

MentionChecker is a tool that checks whether AI engines mention your brand when people ask them for recommendations. You give it your website; it writes the questions people would ask about what you do, puts them to ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, and shows you every answer word for word, with your brand marked wherever it appears.

The report tells you four things: how often you are mentioned, which of the six AI engines mention you, which companies or products are mentioned instead of you and how they rank, and which websites the answers were built from. Nothing is summarised away; you can open any answer and read exactly what was said.

How does MentionChecker work?

You enter your website address, approve or edit the questions MentionChecker proposes, choose which AI engines to ask and which country to ask from, and run the check.

The questions are the kind people actually type: “best email marketing tool for a small business”, “which dentists in Leeds are taking new patients”, “cosy puzzle games with no ads”. MentionChecker reads your website to write them, so a clinic gets patient questions, a game gets player questions and a charity gets donor questions. You can edit any question, add your own, or use the suggestions as they are.

Because the same question gets a different answer in different countries, you choose the country the questions are asked from. Running the check again later shows what changed since the previous one, and a check can be set to repeat daily, weekly or monthly from your balance.

Which AI engines does MentionChecker check?

MentionChecker checks ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. You choose which of the six to include in each check; the free check runs ChatGPT and Gemini.

MentionChecker is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI, Google, Perplexity or Microsoft. It observes the answers those products give to anyone who asks, and does not change them.

What does MentionChecker cost?

MentionChecker is pay-as-you-go with no subscription. One question asked once on one AI engine is one credit; the smallest pack is 50 credits for $9, and 25 questions across all six AI engines is 150 credits. Every pack is listed on the pricing page. The first 10 credits are free and need no card.

Credits last 12 months, nothing renews, and no card is ever charged on a schedule. If you want one check and never another, that is a supported way to use it. If you want it monthly, a repeat schedule draws from the same balance.

How is MentionChecker different from other AI visibility tools?

Most AI visibility tools are monthly subscriptions built for marketing teams that track prompts every day. MentionChecker is a check you run when you want to know where you stand, priced per question rather than per month, with no minimum and no plan to cancel.

Three things follow from that. You decide how each check runs — which AI engines, how many questions, which country, how often — instead of picking a tier. You get the answers themselves, in full, rather than a score. And a small business, a clinic, a school or a game studio can afford to check as easily as an agency can, because a check costs a few dollars and not a few hundred a month.

A business or organisation runs one check to see where it stands, then repeats it when it wants to know what changed. An agency holds a brand per client in one account, invites the people who need to see the reports, and pays for all of them from one balance. A marketing or SEO team uses it to see which questions mention them, which competitors are recommended instead, and which websites the AI engines cite, before deciding what to write.

It does not suit anyone who needs a prompt tracked every hour, or a tool that writes content for them. MentionChecker measures; it does not optimise.

Who makes MentionChecker?

MentionChecker is an independent product of MentionLift Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, funded by what customers pay for it.

Is there a free AI visibility check? Yes. Every new account gets 10 free credits, enough for 5 questions on ChatGPT and Gemini, with no card required.

Do I need a subscription to use MentionChecker? No. MentionChecker is pay-as-you-go: you buy credits, they last 12 months, and nothing is charged on a schedule.

Can I see which competitors AI recommends instead of me? Yes. Every brand mentioned in the answers is counted and ranked, so you see who is ahead of you. The list comes from the answers themselves; you do not have to type in competitors.

Does the country matter for AI visibility? Yes. The same question gets a different answer in Germany and in the United States, so you choose the country the questions are asked from.

Can MentionChecker run on a schedule? Yes. A check can repeat daily, weekly or monthly, paid from your balance, and each check shows what changed since the last one.

Can I share a MentionChecker report? Yes. Each report has a link you can send to anyone without a login, and you can download it as PDF, Markdown or JSON.
